Hidden on the East side of the city, nestled between Queen and Richmond, lies a café named after the street it is on. This local favourite, located at 141 Berkeley Street, serves up delicious salads, quiche, sandwiches, pasta and baked goods. Although it’s visibly a small café, make no mistake about the volume of business that comes in and out of the café’s doors. Open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, The Berkeley Café caters to patrons looking for a cozy place to dine or to busy customers looking to… Read the rest

It’s no big secret, I have an affinity for Withrow Park. It’s a great hideaway from the bustling city, and no wonder, at 21 acres, this public space is equipped with an ice rink, tennis courts, soccer field, baseball diamond, it’s a playground for many dogs in the neighbourhood and from Carlaw Avenue the park has great views of the city’s skyline. But just south of this serene environment lies something that is unknown to most people outside of the Riverdale area — Riverdale Perk, a laid-back cafe/restaurant serving up… Read the rest

The annual Taste of the Danforth festival, in its 17th year, kicks off in Greektown on August 6-8. This multicultural event, which is arguably Canada’s largest street festival, welcoming over 1.2 million visitors, brings Greek, Thai, Indian and many other tasty cuisine out of local restaurants and into the streets. Enjoy live entertainment by artists like Jesse Labelle and Alyssa Reid or appearances from last season’s ‘So You Think You Can Dance, Canada” competitors, all while getting your fill of authentic souvlaki, grilled lamb and loukoumades (honey puffs) — a… Read the rest

I often stumble across great restaurants through recommendations from friends or colleagues, but the weekend of the World Cup final had something else in store for me.
I crossed paths with Ravi Kanagarajah, owner and chef of RaviSoups. As the conversation ensued, I learned of his two restaurants in downtown Toronto. I admitted to him and his wife that I had never heard of their establishments before, but both ever so humble, just smiled and invited me to stop by.
Over the next couple of days, I mentioned RaviSoups to… Read the rest

This diner has become a local fav by simply offering good food for great value!
Don’t be fooled by the outside appearance of this place. Inside you’ll find a spacious dining room, bustling servers wearing white shirts, and clientele that range from those dressed in their Sunday-best to those that look like they’re grabbing a bite between the rinse and spin cycle at the laundry mat up the street.
Nevertheless, you won’t be disappointed with the amount of food you get and the price for which you get it —… Read the rest
